We had been discussing the logistics of a flaming meal for some time, when I decided that was what I wanted to do for my birthday. Everything flaming, including the waiter!
We went to El Gaucho in Portland, which features flaming shish kebobs. Our bartender was most obliging, as was the wait staff. I started with a Ginger Lime Drop aka Jackie Chan martini, flamed with a rum-soaked sugar cube. For appetizer, we enjoyed Wicked Shrimp, made hotter by brandy flames. My Caesar Salad was enhanced by flaming Sambuca in an upturned shot glass in the middle of the plate. The main course was flaming lamb shish kebob. For the grande finale we shared Bananas Foster, which of course, is flamed. Finally, our bartender presented us with the bill - and set it on fire.
