We got snow.
As promised, we are on our way to accumulating the predicted <1” of snow, here at 400ft. I woke up at 5:30 this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep. I thought I saw the beginning of some precipitation, but it wasn’t snow yet. It still hadn’t started snowing when the Sunday Oregonian hit the front porch around 6.
When I bothered to look up from the Sunday Times crossword about 7:40, it was coming down in fine white flakes. I let the cats out. I let the cats back in. I let the cats out again.
Now that E is awake, he can take over cat doorman duty.

Toasty warm.
We’re in for the first storm of winter. High winds at the coast and already part of I-84 is closed due to weather-related accidents.
But we are toasty warm here. I put the electric blanket on the bed and I’ve got a roaring fire in the wood stove. Time to break out those thick winter sweaters. Plus I’ve got the occasional extra warmth of hot flashes. Hot flash power, ACTIVATE!
E is out with his buddies cutting our Christmas tree. I wasn’t planning on decorating it this weekend. This weekend I finish up the cards and wrap presents for mailing. So the tree sits naked for a week, big deal.

Justifying the calories.
I went on a 1-1/2 hour bike ride this morning, about 16 miles, with my brother- and sister-in-law and a few of the more hardcore people they bike with. I was the noob.
It’s been awhile since I suspended commuting to work for the winter and it felt good to get some miles under me. Now I can justify the way too much I’m likely to eat later this afternoon.

Denuded.
We’ve been talking about buying a new house for years now. We’re finally getting around to making improvements our current house so it will be salable. I know the market’s down, they say, but people do still need places to live, and our house will price into a range that is attractive right now.
The first step we’ve taken is to hire a landscaping crew to make the outside look decent. I have been an indifferent gardener for years. The front and back were covered with ivy. There were too many trees blocking the light.
It’s all gone now and the yard looks great! I couldn’t be happier. The yard is so clean and uncluttered. The trees are still there but they’ve been limbed up. Even the vinca minor has been severely trimmed back. I was hoping it would have been eradicated altogether. E likes the vinca, but I’ve held a grudge ever since it tried to eat my azalea.

The happiest man in America today.
I’m betting it’s Todd Palin.
Back to Alaska, back to hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. You can’t do that in DC. He would have been miserable at Number One Observatory Circle.

OBAMAMANIA!!!
I am so happy I can hardly contain myself. At long last we will have a president who is intelligent, articulate, thoughtful, clear-headed, insightful, calm, did I mention intelligent? I just can’t believe. America elected a black man as president. And what a man.

Obama's da man! And da pumpkin!

Or if you’re of a different turn of mind, it’s a scary jack-o-lantern. Speaking of which, I created a category just for jack-o-lanterns. I thought I had more of them up on the site, but there’s only a couple from year’s past. Click the category link to see them.

Whither spam?
Not that I’m complaining, mind you.
I got tired some time ago of having to sift through the spam in my inbox, so I instituted a tighter policy: if you’re not on my safe list, into the junk folder you go. As a result, I always look through the short list of spam first, to pull out the legitimate emails.
I used to get 7-10 new spam messages a day, but lately it has dropped off. Some days I get none at all. But I wonder where it all went?

Why is the "B" backwards?
McCain supporter robbed, assaulted
Read the article and look at the photo. I considered that the photo might be flopped (reversed). The article clearly states that the perpetrator carved the letter “B” on the young woman’s right cheek.
Far be it from me to cast doubt on a crime victim’s story, but why is the “B” backwards?
UPDATE Campaign Volunteer Faces Charges In Attack Hoax
Sad, really.
