Remember the kind of games you played as a kid, where you had to stay inside a marked area or you “died”? We play those kinds of games in kung fu, too.
At this morning’s advanced class we had three black belts and three of us under belts. We did one round of multi-person attacks, each person taking a turn in the middle of the circle. Then we pulled the mats to the center of the room and did our multi-persons on the mat. If you stepped off the mats, you fell off the roof and were “dead”.
Our first round, everybody did a pretty good job of staying on the mats while handling multiple attackers.
The second round, each black belt had to handle the attackers with throws and takedowns. I was disappointed that we underbelts didn’t get to throw our attackers.
Funny thing, on that round, each of us three underbelts were almost immediately tossed off the mats by our attackers.
