I am forced by circumstance to turn into an old lady, carefully scrutinizing my receipts, looking for cashier errors.
In the past few weeks I’ve had multiple instances of being charged twice for an item I’ve purchased. I would prefer to assume it is inadvertent fat fingering, not deliberate, but still, it’s always the expensive item, not the cheap item.
Powell’s charged me 2x for a $14.95 calendar. I got all the way home before I checked my receipt and had to turn right around and go back downtown to rectify.
I was smarter at REI. I checked the receipt right away and saw that the girl had charged me for two backpacks, not one. She had to void out the entire transaction and re-ring it. My bank still shows the voided transaction as pending. I wonder if I’m going to have to fight with the bank and/or REI to get it right. Good thing I keep my receipts.
