Not dead yet.

Posted Wed Mar 31, 2004, 08:55 AM by Tracy | |

Last fall I transplanted a volunteer butterfly bush behind the irises. Then came real winter, with snow and freezing temperatures. I had no idea what in the garden would survive and what wouldn’t.

The other butterfly bushes are in fine shape. They have put out bright leafy growth. The transplant, on the other hand, does not look healthy. It appears to have some small growth, but nothing like the leafy bud of the others. I snapped off a branch. There’s still some green in the wood, so I guess it’s not dead yet. I’ll just have to wait and see.

I hedged my bet. I found another volunteer butterfly bush and transplanted that in the same area.

  1. It will be okay. Butterfly bushes are strong. Patience.

  2. I have some amazing plants that survived the winter. It never ceases to astound me. Even the ones I ignore come back for more punishment.
