It was with a heavy heart that I laid to rest the last bottle of Francois Pinon 2004 Vouvray Cuvee Tradition. Even heavier on my heart lies the knowledge that I won’t be able to get it again.
I thought I was in luck. I contacted a local wine shop and ordered a case. They were happy to sell it to me. But when I opened the box at home, it was the 2005 vintage, not the 2004 I requested. It even said 2004 on my receipt.
To be fair, I opened a bottle to sample it. The 2005 was good, but it wasn’t what I wanted, certainly not an entire case. The 2004 was a wonder, full-bodied and fruity without being too sweet.
When I returned the case of wine to the wine shop and they said they weren’t getting any 2004, it was all gone.
Ah well * sigh *. It was nice while it lasted.
