A farewell to Palm.

Since 1998 I’ve been a loyal owner of Palm handheld devices. They last a couple years before they die. Then I spend the same amount of money and get a better model. This last one, a Palm IIIxe, lasted a four years, a new record.

A few days ago my Palm IIIxe would not turn on for love or money. Normally not a reason to panic, but I completely hosed a password for an online account I needed to access. The information I needed to restore access was on the Palm.

Lucky for me a coworker came to my rescue. He gave me his old Sony Clié. I had to install a newer version of the Palm OS and desktop, plus buy a newer version of some software, but it was still cheaper than buying a new Palm.

I’m not sure that I’ll keep the Clié though. I like the feel of it, but it has some quirks. The most annoying thing is I haven’t figured out how I can move an application from one category to another. Absolutely flummoxed.
