Can you believe it? Julia Child died. She’s one of those people, like Bob Hope, Rose Kennedy and the Queen Mum, whom I thought would just go on forever.

One of the cool things about Julia Child is she was a spy in WWII. She worked for the OSS, predecessor to the CIA. Before she was cooking up Beef Wellington for PBS audiences (and dropping it on the floor), she cooked up shark repellant for underwater explosives. Sharks would bump the explosives, setting them off, which would alert the German U-boats for which they were intended.
