My Christmas preparations are winding down. It’s been hectic, but everything is under control and I finally feel I can relax. We made our annual pre-Christmas coastal visit and made the rounds of all the relatives, distributing cookies and good cheer. Back in Portland we made the rounds of all the bars, distributing cookies and drinking.
For some time now I’ve had an idea for a Christmas open house. It would be an all-day party, with people popping in and out. Refreshments would be light. The highlight would be continuous showings of classic holiday movies:
It’s a Wonderful Life
The Bishop’s Wife
Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
A Christmas Story
A Christmas Carol
and of course, all those fine quality stop-action animated cartoons by Bass & Rankin.
Our house is too small to manage it, I’m afraid. Feel free to steal the idea and host your own Christmas open house. Just be sure you invite me.
